Tenuate is an oral medication, used as an weight loss appetite suppressant. It should be used in association with diet, exercise, and lifestyle modification advice for the short-term management of obesity.
Tenuate appetite suppressants are not a substitute for proper weight loss diet. For maximum effects, they must be used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program.
Follow the directions for using Tenuate provided by your doctor. Do not increase your dose or take it more often than prescribed because this drug can be habit forming. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking this medicine for longer than prescribed may cause serious side effects. If used for a longer period of time, do not suddenly stop taking Tenuate without first consulting your doctor. This medication is usually taken for 8 to 12 weeks.
Some side effects are restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, and dry mouth. If you notice other side effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If the above side effects persist or become troublesome, inform your doctor.
If you miss a dose of Tenuate, do not double the next dose. Instead, ignore the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
If you think you may have taken an overdose of Tenuate, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose include restlessness, tremor, rapid breathing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
