Xenical is a prescription-only weight loss pill that works in the gut and targets the absorption of fat while food is being digested. According to the manufacturer, dietary fats we consume are inhibited from being absorbed which causes about 30% of the fat eaten in the meal to pass through the gut undigested. This helps us to reduce and maintain our weight, as well as to minimize any weight regain. Each Xenical capsule contains 120 mg of the active substance orlistat. It is one of the few weight loss pills prescribed for long-term use.
Xenical is not a magic weight loss pill, nor is it a substitute for proper diet. For maximum effect, Xenical should be used in conjunction with a balanced low fat diet and exercise program.
Follow the directions for using Xenical provided by your doctor. Xenical is usually taken with each meal (three times daily). Note: Divide your daily fat intake equally between meals to benefit from Xenical's actions.
Some side effects are oily stools, fecal urgency, and increased defecation, and occasional fecal incontinence (when first starting the medication). All of these side-effects worsen as the amount of fat in a meal increases; thus as stated above, it is recommended that the diet be limited to no more than 30 % fat and that the fat be dispersed in three daily meals. If the above side effects persist or become troublesome, inform your doctor. |
